{"id":755,"date":"2005-04-21T21:08:59","date_gmt":"2005-04-22T02:08:59","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=755"},"modified":"2005-04-21T21:09:12","modified_gmt":"2005-04-22T02:09:12","slug":"us-soldier-convicted-of-killing-comrades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/targetcentermass.net\/?p=755","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Soldier Convicted of Killing Comrades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sergeant Hasan Akbar &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/storyview\/MSN\/world\/national\/2005\/04\/21\/akbar050421.html\">guilty as charged<\/a> of premeditated murder.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The U.S. army sergeant who rolled a grenade into a tent full of his own colleagues and fired at them as they ran outside has been convicted of murder and attempted murder.<\/p>\n<p>A military jury in Fort Bragg, N.C., ruled Hasan Akbar, a member of the famed 101st Airborne Division, was guilty in the 2003 attack on his comrades in Kuwait.<\/p>\n<p>Two officers were killed in the attack, which came just days before the U.S. launched its invasion of Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>Akbar&#8217;s lawyers argued he has been suffering from a mental illness for years.<\/p>\n<p>Because the jury returned a unanimous verdict, the crime is punishable by death.<\/p>\n<p>A sentencing hearing will begin next Monday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As <a href=\"http:\/\/targetcentermass.net\/index.php?p=721\">before<\/a>, I&#8217;m hoping for a death sentence to be dealt to Akbar but wouldn&#8217;t be surprised if justice falls short.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sergeant Hasan Akbar &#8212; guilty as charged of premeditated murder.
