U.S. Soldier Convicted of Killing Comrades

Sergeant Hasan Akbar — guilty as charged of premeditated murder.

The U.S. army sergeant who rolled a grenade into a tent full of his own colleagues and fired at them as they ran outside has been convicted of murder and attempted murder.

A military jury in Fort Bragg, N.C., ruled Hasan Akbar, a member of the famed 101st Airborne Division, was guilty in the 2003 attack on his comrades in Kuwait.

Two officers were killed in the attack, which came just days before the U.S. launched its invasion of Iraq.

Akbar’s lawyers argued he has been suffering from a mental illness for years.

Because the jury returned a unanimous verdict, the crime is punishable by death.

A sentencing hearing will begin next Monday.

As before, I’m hoping for a death sentence to be dealt to Akbar but wouldn’t be surprised if justice falls short.

    Gunner,
I heard on the radio that the coward’s lawyers are claiming he wasn’t smart enough and/or is too crazy to know he did wrong. If this traitor doesn’t deserve the death penalty, who does? How many of his “fellow” soldiers would the treacherous puke have to kill to get it?

If soldiers are the ones who decide if he dies, he will. If it is a judge, who knows?

The idiot wrote in his diary of desire to take things into his own hands…He killed the very men who would have died for him. May he rot in hell. (Can’t yah tell I have sympathy)??

Wonder if they are looking for volunteers for his firing squad? Hope he gets to meet his maker ASAP along with those he sent on before him…just before the heavenly floor opens up,and he begins his decent toward his new, much warmer, home. Yeah, my sympathy cup is overflowing here too.

Y’all are all right — this scumbag definitely deserves death.

Guy, is it still by firing squad?

To be honest, I don’t know. The last person I know of that faced a death penalty was during WWII (Private Slovak), and yes, he got the firing squad. And I don’t know of anyone in recent history who was charged with say, treason, or some other capital offence…your guess is as good as mine….but, yes, I think it still stands.
